Up in the air
This shot from around 1905 shows the Cincinnati & Clifton Inclined Plane Railroad, popularly called the Bellevue Incline, which was built at the head of Elm Street at McMicken Avenue in 1876 and went to Ohio Avenue. At its top, the ornate Bellevue House beckoned city dwellers and visitors to rise above the haze and crowds of the city. The building to the right housed the UC medical college. Traffic tackler
For many years, Metro buses provided the best seat in the house for getting to and from Cincinnati Bengals games. This shot shows a tiger-striped bus awaiting passengers outside Riverfront Stadium, and is presented in honor of another season of hometown NFL action. Photo from the Metro collection

Higher education
School starts in late August and early September, and we present this vintage shot of a bus taking on passengers on Clifton Avenue in front of UC. The year was 1926, the first year in which motor bus service became available, so this may well be one of the first motor buses to ever operate in the city. Photo from the Metro collection

Greener and cleaner
Metro continues to make a good thing (riding the bus) even better with the addition of three more hybrid buses to its fleet, bringing the total up to nine. Hybrids reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% and reduce emissions by up to 95%. Photo by Scott Beseler
