COMPARISON OF REGIONAL BUS FARES
Metro’s current base fares of 65¢ non-rush-hour and 80¢ rush-hour are lower than base fares in other cities in the region and the nation. Metro also offers a 50¢ weekend fare; most transit systems charge the same fare every day.
For most systems in the region, customers pay a base fare of $1.25 every time they get on the bus, regardless of distance, day of week, or time of day. Cleveland and Columbus charge more for direct commuter express services.
Metro’s local funding is through the City of Cincinnati, which is considered Zone 1. Additional charges are added to the base fare for service to Hamilton County. Special services that Metro operates as a contractor for long-distance routes have higher fares, based on their contracts with Metro.
Most other transit systems have county-wide funding and, therefore, do not charge based on zones.
