METRO BUS DRIVER’S VIGILANCE PAYS
OFF
CINCINNATI
-- Just before 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, a Metro bus driver
discovered three small cylinders on the back seat of a Rt.
4 bus parked at the end-of-the-line layover on Wexford near Galbraith
Rd. and the
Dillonvale Shopping Center. The Rt. 4 serves the Montgomery
Road corridor.
The bus driver -- a woman who has been a Metro employee
for 10 years -- was following Metro’s standard procedure of inspecting
the bus at the end of the route for any items left behind
by customers.
The bus driver immediately called for assistance.
Sycamore Township police/fire and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s
Hazardous Devices Unit responded and the bus was thoroughly
searched. The cylinders
were removed and the bus was cleared to depart by 8:30 p.m.
No one was injured and there was no one on the bus except
the bus driver when the cylinders were found.
Anyone with information about this incident should call CrimeStoppers
at 352-3040 or the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office at 825-1500.
Since
Sept. 11, 2001, Metro has encouraged extra vigilance on
the part of employees and customers. Any suspicious items
or activities on the bus should be reported to the bus
driver immediately.
Metro is a non-profit public service,
providing about 20 million rides per year in Greater Cincinnati. # # #
