Region’s
Leading Museums Go Wi-Fi
Art Museum and Museum Center become “Lily Pad” sites
CINCINNATI
-- Feb. 15, 2006 – The Cincinnati Art Museum and Cincinnati
Museum Center at Union Terminal announced today that each
will offer FREE wireless internet access to visitors beginning March
1, 2006.
In a partnership with Time Warner Cable Business Class,
sponsor of both sites, as well as Metro and Give Back Cincinnati’s
Project Lily Pad, both leading cultural attractions will become “wi-fi” capable
in several areas in and around their buildings.
Visitors to
the Art Museum will have internet access in:
- The Terrace Café
- The Alice Bimel Courtyard
At Museum Center, the following
areas will have wi-fi:
- The Grand Rotunda
- The Cincinnati Dining Room
- The Losantiville Café
- The Rookwood Ice Cream Parlor
- The Fountain Plaza
“
This is a significant step forward the Lily Pad project and the Cincinnati
USA region,” said Ryan Rybolt, co-founder of Give Back Cincinnati and
the Lily Pad project. “While there are many other wireless initiatives
throughout the nation, Lily Pad is standing out as a leader in establishing
partnerships
to offer free wireless to anyone visiting or living within our region.”
Extremely
popular in coffee shops and on college campuses around the country, wi-fi
spots allow visitors to access the internet from their wi-fi ready laptops
and other portable computers. Unlike some wi-fi services, local “Lily
Pad” sites
are free for all, thanks to this completely volunteer-driven initiative to
install free wireless internet access in public spots throughout greater Cincinnati. “
Along with free admission, free wi-fi is another great reason to make the most
of your visit to the community's art museum,” said Cindy Fink, director
of external relations. “Whether you're hosting a business lunch, writing
a research paper or surfing the internet, the Cincinnati Art Museum provides
an inspiring setting for you to hop on and go wireless.”
“
Over one million people walk through our front doors every year,” said
Douglass W. McDonald, president/CEO of Museum Center. “It’s
exciting to offer them another opportunity to fully explore our world and
worlds beyond,
through our museums, traveling exhibits, OMNIMAX films… and now through
the World Wide Web.”
The museums are both served by Metro’s
Rt. 1 Museum Center-Mt. Adams-Zoo, which connects several major arts and
entertainment venues in and near downtown.
In celebration of the collaborative effort to connect Cincinnatians with
their strong arts and technology communities, Metro will fully “wrap” two
buses with the Lily Pad brand, serving as 40-ft. moving billboards for
the project. The buses are being decorated in Lily Pad’s “Hop
On. Go Wireless” slogan
and artwork. # # #
