HOP ON, GO WIRELESS… METRO TESTS
TWO MOBILE WI-FI BUSES
Free wireless internet service available en route
on
Lily Pad buses
CINCINNATI – It gives “life in the fast lane” a
whole new meaning.
Metro will offer FREE wireless internet
service on the two specially wrapped Project Lily Pad buses
beginning Wednesday,
March 1. Customers will be able to access the internet free
while riding on these
buses.
This pilot project will test mobile Wi-Fi technology
(designed and managed by HarborLink Network) on the two Lily
Pad buses, which will be on Rt. 1 Museum Center-Mt. Adams-Zoo
for the next two weeks and on other
routes later. Metro is one of the first transit systems in
the country to experiment with mobile Wi-Fi.
In addition to
the Wi-Fi buses, Metro is partnering with Project Lily Pad
and Time-Warner Business Class to offer free wireless
internet service at:
- Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal grand rotunda,
beginning March 1
- Cincinnati Art Museum later this spring.
Metro’s Rt. 1 Museum Center-Mt.
Adams-Zoo serves both museums.
The Metro partnership also includes
Lily Pad sites at Metro’s two
newest transit facilities, Government Square and the Anderson
Lake park & ride,
both under construction.
Unlike some Wi-Fi services, Lily Pad
sites are free for everyone, thanks to the completely volunteer-driven
Project Lily Pad
initiative to install free wireless internet access in public
spots throughout greater
Cincinnati.
