CINCINNATI -- The proposed Metro fare increase that was supposed to go into effect this Sunday has not yet been approved by Cincinnati City Council.
Therefore, Metro’s current fares will not change on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007.
In November, Metro proposed the fare change to help offset rising fuel costs and prepare for under-funded bus replacements beginning in 2008, while keeping service levels stable. Reduced state funding is also putting pressure on Metro’s budget.
The proposed increase is $0.25 for most Metro adult fares. Fare Deal cardholders (people with disabilities/older adults) and children (under age 5, 45”) would pay half-price. Access paratransit fares (for people whose disabilities prevent their use of Metro) would
not increase. Metro’s current base fare is $1. Even with the increase, Metro’s proposed $1.25 base fare within the City of Cincinnati would be one of the lowest in the country.

Metro is a non-profit public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing about 22 million rides per year in Greater Cincinnati.
