$718,350: Federal Job Access-Reverse Commute grant
The Job Access-Reverse Commute (JARC) program was established by the Federal Transit Administration to address the unique transportation challenges faced by welfare recipients and low-income persons seeking to get and keep jobs.
JARC funds are competitively awarded through our region’s metropolitan planning organization, OKI Regional Council of Governments.
JARC funds require a dollar-for-dollar local match. Everybody Rides Metro was awarded $718,350 over two years (2008-2009) for job-related transportation for low-income individuals. With the required match, that translates to more than $1.4 million in rides for low-income workers.
The following contributions will be used to help fulfill the local match:
$200,000: The Greater Cincinnati Foundation
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has stepped forward with $200,000 ($100,000 per year) of the match. Of this amount, $9,000 is from the Frances Ehrlich Wolf Fund in Memory of Alfred Max Stern, a field of interest fund of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation empowers donors to make a profound difference in the quality of human and community life in the Greater Cincinnati region, today and tomorrow. GCF believes in the power of philanthropy to change the lives of people and communities. As a community foundation, GCF makes grants and provides leadership in six key areas: arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environment, health, and human services.
$250,000+: More than 25 local non-profit partner organizations
So far, more than 25 local non-profit organizations have agreed to collectively purchase $250,000 in tokens that will count as local match for the JARC grant. Everybody Rides Metro will double the number of tokens the partner organizations receive, using the federal JARC grant to fund the extra tokens.
$15,000: The Robert H. Reakirt Foundation, PNC Bank, Trustee
The Robert H. Reakirt Foundation, PNC Bank, Trustee, has awarded $15,000 to serve as match for the grant, specifically to provide work access for low-income individuals.
